Students gathered together for special cultural celebrations for the first annual Truth and Reconciliation Day. Activities included creation of clay tiles that reflect our understanding of history and reconciliation, preparation of a traditional meal, participation in traditional games, and drumming. We were honoured by a visit from a local elder who celebrated the day with us.
Students visited Penelakut Spit and harvested manilla clams. This connected to learn on BC Coastal First Peoples connection to the land and traditional food sources. Students brought some of the catch to local elders in the community.
